With over 70 member organisations the Cameroon Coalition Against Malaria (CCAM) enables partners to incorporate malaria into their work. It provides training on advocacy and programming to build capacity and has a media coalition, that deals with training and support for journalists. CCAM works with parliamentarians to encourage them to become successful malaria champions and conducts advocacy activities around key dates like World Malaria Day.

To mark World Malaria Day 2010 CCAM will be organising various activities including:

  • A media event on 27th April, entitled Evaluating the fight against malaria in Cameroon.
  • A sensitisation campaign called Caravan of Life which will help set up a “Grandparents against malaria” association in local community Bambalang. This campaign will include media outreach.
  • Training of local broadcasters about malaria so they can broadcast key malaria messages in their respective dialects.
  • A competition on the best school clean-up campaign. Schools which participated in World Malaria Day last year will be inspected for cleanliness/absence of mosquito breeding grounds.
  • Launch of advocacy document Malaria Practical Guide in French/English, in four regions of Cameroon.
Partners involved include: Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, Cameroon Media Against Malaria (CAMAM), Malaria Consortium, NMCP/DLM, CASA, Parliamentarians, Africa Action on AIDs, and all Cameroon Coalition Against Malaria members

Looking beyond World Malaria Day to the rest of 2010 CCAM will focus on:

  1. Supporting CAMAM to become more effective in malaria advocacy
  2. Developing a bilingual information resource centre for Central Francophone Africa
  3. Enhancing the capacity of grassroots organisations to implement malaria programmes and mobilise resources
  4. Supporting central and regional RBM Committees
  5. Supporting the Cameroon Parliamentarians Against Malaria (CAPAAM)
  6. Monitoring malaria indicators for advocacy in partnership with the National Malaria Control Programme.

Not only useful but excellent. We of PFC want to be Real Active Partners like those you have sighted, considering that many inmates die out of this illness in our prisons. When there are celebrotions like the World Malaria Day, we will like to be an integral part of you in carrying out the activities in some of the 72 prisons in Cameroon
